Trail Council makes changes to Market on the Esplanade due to drop in attendance

A decline in attendance at the Friday Trail Markets on the Esplanade means a change for this year.

Council has now decided to go with three Wednesday evening markets in 2018; One in June, July and August and cancel the Friday markets.

The city says they've had fewer people at the Friday markets, despite a rebrand and increased marketing and advertising.

The goal of hosting fewer markets in the evenings is to create more of a "special event" that includes entertainment, market and food vendors, and community engagement.

Meanwhile, the City, along with help from a summer student, will be taking over the administrative duties. While it was a successful fundraising campaign for the United Way last year as a joint venture, they have said they don't have enough staff resources to fullfill administrative duties.
