Trail RCMP, road checks in December, and an arrest in West Trail

Trail RCMP are looking back at the Christmas Counter Attack Program in the month of December, which ran alongside with province wide traffic safety initiatives.

There were more local police officers out on the road conducting pro-active roadblocks and traffic stops looking for impaired driving, distracted driving, seatbelts, speeding, and other offences in Trail, Warfield, Rossland, Fruitvale, and Montrose.

On the weekend of December 21st and 22nd, 284 vehicles were checked.

Only one vehicle had to be taken off the road for having no insurance.

On New Years Eve, they also had a counter attack check stop in the Rossland area, and no drivers were found to be impaired by drugs or alcohol

Meanwhile a dramatic arrest for Trail RCMP yesterday, with help from West Kootenay Traffic Services.

They located Christopher James Thom at an apartment in West Trail.

Police say he had outstanding unendorsed warrants for his arrest and for breaching a condition of his undertaking.

According to police, the suspect tried to get away by jumping through a glass window of the apartment, unfortunately for him it was into the arms of an awaiting police office.

The man was arrested and is in custody, facing several charges.
