Two snowmobilers had to be rescued this week in the Castlegar area
RCMP are reminding people heading into the backcountry to be fully prepared after an incident this week.
Castlegar RCMP received a report of two men overdue from a day trip on their snowmobiles Wednesday.
Fortunately the pair had told family members where they were headed, and Search and Rescue teams were able to follow fresh tracks from the men's vehicle in the area of the Rialto Forest Service Road.
Late that night the two men were found 30km's from their vehicle.
Both snowmobiles had broken down.
The men were able to start a fire and had planned to wait until daylight to hike out.
According to police the men were not well prepared for their outing, and weren't appropriately dressed to spend a night outdoors..they also didn't have emergency supplies or equipment.
One man suffered frostbite to his toes and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
