Unemployment rate down in the Kootenays and Nationally
The unemployment rate was down in the Kootenays in January.
Last month there were 57-hundred people looking for work, a rate of 7.5 percent, down from December the previous year when there were 68 hundred people job hunting, for a rate of 8.8 percent.
The number of jobs around the region hasn't really changed much year to year, but Statistics Canada say the labour force was down in December 2017.
Job increases came in Retail and Wholesale trade.
Nationally Canada's unemployment rate fell last month to its lowest level since 1976.
Figures from Statistics Canada show the country's jobless rate dropped to 5.7 per cent in December, with the economy generating more than 78-thousand net new positions, including more than 23-thousand full-time jobs.
