Unemployment rate lower in the Kootenays in February

The unemployment rate in the Kootenays was down in February.

Last month there were 31-hundred people looking for work for a rate of 3.9 percent, last year at the same time there were 16 hundred more people job hunting and the rate was 6.7 percent.

The number of people with jobs around the region also increased by close to 10-thousand year over year

Nationally,  The unemployment rate held steady in February at 5.8 per cent.

But Stats Can reports the economy added almost 56-thousand net new jobs as more people started looking for work.

When you add the jobs added in January,  the numbers represent the best two-month stretch of job creation since the spring of 2012.
