Wait times for hip and knee surgeries around IH longer than the National average

Interior Health continues to work on decreasing wait times for both hip and knee surgeries.

A new report shows across Canada, it takes about half a year or 182 days for those procedures to be completed.

Interior Health's Karen Bloemink says the wait times are slightly longer around the IH service area with only 47 percent of patients needing knee replacement  able to hit that benchmark while the same was true for 51 percent of hip replacement patients.

She does say IH has increased the number of hip and knee surgeries for patients, specifically they've performed 765 more hip and knee surgeries this year compared to last year which is a 25 percent increase.

The quickest wait times in BC were found in Fraser Health where hip replacement patients got their appointment within six months 77% of the time and 63% for knee replacements.
