Water rescue on Kootenay Lake after kayaks capsized in wind storm
No injuries after a couple of kayaks capsized in an unexpected wind storm on Kootenay Lake yesterday in front of the Chahko Mika Mall in Nelson.
Nelson Police and Fire and Rescue were called out to do a joint rescue operation, after getting the call that the two people in the water were struggling to return to shore.
Members of the public were able to help and get the two kayakers out of the water and on board personal watercraft, and the vacant kayaks were recovered.
According to police, help from the public, and the proper use of personal flotation devices were instrumental in ensuring the safety of the kayakers.
