West Kootenay part of province wide blitz on distracted driving

You may have seen more of a police presence on local roads on Friday.

It was part of a province-wide blitz  aimed at combating distracted driving.

The campaign coincides with tougher penalties for distracted driving that take effect this month.

As previously announced, I-C-B-C says drivers with two convictions within three years for the use of electronic devices while driving now face added and higher premiums of as much as two-thousand dollars.

A pilot project is also under way to test a small device that blocks the use of a handheld phone when users are driving.
