Wildfire behind Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail

A number of agencies are on site at a wildfire behind the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail.

RDKB Emergency Program Manager Chris Marsh says there's concern with high winds and the storms that have come through the area, with no precipitation but dry lightening..

"There's several agencies down here at the incident command post so we do have representatives from Interior Health, the RCMP, BC Ambulance is on standby. There are aircraft from the BC Wildfire Service actioning the fire, along with a significant component of firefighters from Kootenay  Boundary Fire Rescue. There's no evacuation alerts or orders in relations to the fire at this time and we'll be monitoring through the evening to see if those are appropriate or neccessary. KBRH has activated their emergency plan in preparedness in case they need to undertake further action. Kootenay  Boundary Regional District Staff are also working to secure the landfill to keep the blaze out of there"

Theres word The hospital hill is closed There are trail closures in the area, tonight and into tomorrow until the BC Fire Service says its safe to go back

Marsh says they'll continue to monitor the situation as it develops and there are significant resources being applied to the fire simply because of the concern from the community.

So far no word on the cause of the fire.
