Avalanche Canada's plans for one time funding from Federal Government

Avalanche Canada now has their one time funding endowment from the Federal government.

25 million dollars was announced in November with officials working on planning for the funding since then.

Executive Director of Avalanche Canada, Gilles Valade, says it will go towards expansion, and shoring up their programs.

He says they've been under-resourced for quite a few years, so it's important to invest in their own existing products and services, including replacing old infrastructure.

Meanwhile the funding has to be rolled into a 15 year business plan, so now their main focus is on obtaining more funding from the provinces for year to year operations.

This season there were a dozen avalanche fatalities in Canada.
