Flooding and evacuations in Osoyoos

Warmer than normal temepratures, record setting rain, and a snow pack over 200 percent early in May...

All are working toward causing major flooding problems throughout the South Okanagan...especially in Osoyoos and OK Falls...

Tthe Town of Osoyoos evacuated 16 homes on Harbour Key and 6 homes on Solana Key yesterday.  People have also been evacuated from Paradise Park mobile home park, Willow Beach, and the Coast Hotel.

The lake reached 916 feet above sea level Thursday afternoon...or about a foot shy of the lake level during the flood of 1972.

Further evacuations will likely be necessary as the water rises.  Alerts have been issued to several other properties along the lake.

Forestry crews were in Osoyoos on Thursday helping to fill sandbags and assist the Town in sandbagging critical infrastructure.  Many volunteers also showed up at the boat trailer parking lot to help residents and fill sandbags.

The Town will be expanding the sandbag location to the entire boat trailer parking lot area today...

The Town is also requiring that all residents discontinue using sump pumps to pump water into the town's sewer system immediately!  This has been putting an extreme amount of pressure on lift stations resulting in possible overload and failure.  The Town will be enforcing this order and will be taking action against any persons who is found to be violating this order.
