Penticton City Council changes cannabis bylaw
Penticton city Council voted Tuesday to cap the number of Cannabis Retail stores city-wide at 14 and at 7 in the downtown core....scrapping the buffer zone which had been in place.
Each proposed shop will still need the endorsement of City council, but applications will no longer be forced to look for another site if there is an existing store within 300 meters.
City council last month approved four cannabis storefronts...those applications are waiting approval from the procincial government.
The motion to move to the cap system passed 4-3, with Mayor John Vassilaki and Couns. Katie Robinson and Jake Kimberley opposed.
In the seven months since legalization, the B-C government says it has issued 26 licences and about half are in the North and Interior of the province.
