Penticton Council approves four retail cannabis locations

City council has approved four cannabis retail stores for Penticton ....that after nearly two hours of debate and many defeated motions Tuesday night within council chambers.

The proceedings began with with council hearing from the four applicants which did not receive staff support.

Council Sentes opened the debate with a motion to support the four recommended by staff, plus Zenn Canna, which is within the buffer zone of the governemnt application. That motion was defeated.

Councillor Bloomfield motioned for all 8 stores to be approved...but only received support from Mayor Vassilaki in the vote.

In the end...council went with the staff recommendation to send letters of approval to the provincial government for Green Gaia on 210 Main St... Cannabis Cottage on Martin St., Spiritleaf on Skaha Lake Rd. and a BC Cannabis Store at 2050 Main St...

Councillors Robinson, Regehr, Sentes and Watt voted in favour of the motion...councillors Bloomfield and Kimberley and Mayor Vassilaki voted against.

Councillor Kimberley spoke against many of the applications, and voted against all of the motions put forth.

Staff had recommended rejecting four other applications....council was unanimous in allowing the remaining four to be reconsidered in the future.
They include Green Essence, Zen Canna, Greenery Cannabis Boutique and Bluewater Cannabis.

Another five applications are in the works and could come before council in the near future.
