Ride Don't Hide to Honor Jeremy McGoran

The Ride Don't Hide event benefitting the Canadian Mental Health Association is set to go on June 25th, and here in Penticton, the ride will honor former EZ Rock Host Jeremy McGoran, who took his own life last weekend.

The ride encourages people to ride their bicycles to raise awareness about mental health, and end the stigma against speaking out about it.

Colleen Caron is the Board President of the CMHA South Okanagan Similkameen.

She says Jeremy was a mental health advocate, and was even a fellow board member.

"He made a lot of contributions," says Caron. "In fact, I heard Jeremy on his ride home show several times, and then I myself went in and approached Jeremy and asked if he would be part of the CMHA team."

She says roughly 150 riders are expected to be at the event.

Leah Schulting is the Executive Director of the CMHA South Okanagan Similkameen branch; She explains more about the event.

"It's a celebration in support of mental health for all, with the goal of ending the stigma around mental illness" says Schulting. "It's a fun ride that takes place along the KVR trail, beginning at KVR middle school."
