Six Hour Standoff Ends Peacefully in Penticton
A tense stand-off ended peacefully for a 25 year old Kelowna man and the Penticton RCMP on Thursday morning.
Police say it started around 10:30 Wednesday night, when a man called police saying he had shot himself, and was barricaded in a motel room at the Skaha Lake Lodge.
They arrived on scene, and shut down the road as a safety precaution, later evacuating the motel and sending occupants to the airport for food and warmth.
The caller, identified as a Kelowna man with a criminal record with a number of past violent offences, was safely taken into custody around six hours after the call. While he was suffering from self-inflicted injuries, they weren't from a fire-arm, and police didnt' find any at the scene.
The man is currently at Penticton Regional Hospital under the mental health act.
Police do not anticipate any criminal charges incoming.
