Ban On Category 2 & 3 Fires Begins Wednesday

Fire prohibitions begin Wednesday in the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Marla Catherall with the B.C Wildfire Service has the details, saying "Effective at noon on Wednesday - Category 2 and 3 burns are now prohibited. Specifically those activities include the burning of one of more open fires larger than one metre high by two metres wide."

She says that you can still have a small campfire, for now "Campfires are allowed, and anything smaller."

The Kamloops Fire Centre has waited until early July to ban campfires the past two years.

Also banned as of Wednesday are stubble and grass fires, fireworks, sky lanterns, tiki torches, burn barrels, and exploding binary targets.
