Buckerfield's Store Damaged In Sunday Blaze
Salmon Arm's Buckerfield's store sustained water and fire damage in a Sunday night fire.
Crews responded around 6:15pm, arriving to find smoke coming from the rear of the building.
Fire Chief Brad Shirley has word on his team's response, saying "We found an aggressive fire in the second floor, and they were able to knock it down. Although contained to the second floor, the fire did extend further from the area of orgin and crews spent a considerable amount of time overhauling to make sure the fire was completely suppressed."
Shirley tell us that it could have been much worse, saying "Very fortunate that staff were in the building and noticed the smell, or we certainly would have had to deal with a much larger, devastating fire."
He also has word on the extent of damage "Due to the sufficient fire and water damage I think the store will likely be closed for some time."
Shirley notes no one was injured, saying "No injuries. There was a house cat that was located in good health."
The cause is currently unknown, and staff were back on the scene today to investigate.
Shirley is crediting his staff for their response, as they were quick to arrive.
