City Updates Flooding Issues/Salmon River On Flood Watch
The City of Salmon Arm has handed out more details on flooding issues caused by overnight rain.
Rob Hein with Public Works provided this update on Foothills Road around 11AM "Foothills Road in the 1400 block, it's plugged a few culverts, and flows are more than the culverts can handle, so we've got a bit of flooding here. Foothills is closed down for the moment, until the flows decrease. We're working in the creeks behind the houses here to try and save and keep the damage down to residences as much as we can."
He says that rushing water has also closed an area of road near Okanagan Avenue and 60th Street SE, that’s just North of South Canoe Elementary.
Meanwhile, B.C’s River Forecast Centre has issued a flood watch for the Salmon River, Dave Campbell has more "Certainly quite high-flow early this morning through Falkland, we were reaching kind of a one-in-ten-year flow level - which is pretty high. That water is just making its way down, so it's not quite reached its peak downstream at Salmon Arm yet."
He says that any locals with concerns about the Salmon River and its flow should be monitoring the River Forecast Centre website.
Salmon Arm and the Shuswap are in for more rain and thunder throughout today, as another Special Weather Statement was issued by Environment Canada at 10:30AM.
