Education Minister Approves Trustee Reduction Plan

The Board of Education for SD83 will have only five trustees following October's election.

The District announced Monday that the Education Ministry has granted a recommendation by Official Trustee Mike McKay that would see the Board shrink from nine members to just five.

McKay says he's pleased with the decision, and was glad to see the change announced well before the election process "It was a recommendation that I had made, so I'm glad that the Minister saw that it had some credibility and validitity, and it was pretty-well supported by the partner groups."

The Board of Education will soon be made up of one trustee for the North Shuswap, Sorrento, and Carlin areas, two trustees for Salmon Arm, and one member for the area covering Armstrong, Spallumcheen, Falkland, Silver Creek, and Ranchero.
