Golden's Econolodge Damaged By Morning Fire

Golden's Fire Department says that no one was injured in Thursday morning fire at the local Econolodge.

Fire Chief Dave Balding has details on the call that came in around 3AM "When we arrived there was smoke and fire showing. That necessitated the evacuation of the entire building, and an adjacent building that also had some rental accomodation in it."

The fire was found to be burning on the lower level of the structure, and Balding says that his staff did their best to minimize damage "We were fortunately successful in restricting fire damage to one end of the building, so a large majority of the building remains untouched. Although, because services have been disconnected; there's currently no one staying in the hotel."

He notes that the cause of the fire is currently unknown, and that an investigation is underway.

Portions of Golden's Downtown area saw traffic delays this morning as emergency crews managed the scene.
