Mabel Creek Fire Downgraded To 85 Hectares
The Salmon Arm and Shuswap areas are still free of any large wildfires, but you don't have to look far to find one.
The Kamloops Fire Centre continues to action a fire East of Mabel Lake, called the Mabel Creek fire.
Spokesperson Rosalee Macaulay has details on today's suppression efforts, saying "They have 25 firefighters, and there are five helicopters available."
She says that it was likely caused by lightning, saying "It's still under investigation, but they suspect that it was lightning-caused."
Macaulay says that crews have been busy building guards to ensure the fire doesn't enter a drainage region to the West.
This fire is said to be only 85 hectares in size, down from a previous estimate of around 200 hectares.
