New SPCA Recycling Centre Ready For Action

The Shuswap Branch of the SPCA will show off its new recycling facility on Thursday.

It comes as a result of a $50,000 Canada 150 Grant from SASCU.

Branch Manager Victoria Olynik says the new structure that features power and heat will keep volunteers from sorting bottles in a sea can "There's obviously no lighting or heat inside those cans, but our volunteers in the past two years have sorted 365 days - almost - a year in there, even in the Winter when it's cold and dark."

Olynik says that Thursday will see the Branch welcome the public for refreshments at 2:30PM "It was voted on by the community that we should get this grant from SASCU, so we're thrilled."

She notes that the new sorting space is right next their main building on Auto Road "It's right on our property, when you come in the front parking lot, you can't miss it. It's a very nice building."

Donated bottles brought in $16,000 for the Branch last year, and it's hoped that 2018 will be even better.
