Optimism Grows As Shuswap Lake Levels Finally Drop
The Shuswap Emergency Program is confirming today that Shuswap Lake levels are now dropping.
Team Leader and Spokesperson Derek Sutherland says things are looking good "The Lake has started to drop, and we're absolutely delighted that it has. We're still early in the season, so we're asking people to keep their flood mitigations in place - especially for low lying and flood prone areas, but this is really good news and we're happy to see it."
He does note that a significant rainfall event could still cause issues "A significant rain event, or a significant rain on snow event could change that - since there is still some snowpack up there, but we're really happy to see what's going on here."
Shuswap and Mara Lake property owners had been told to prepare for 2012 water levels, were about half a metre higher.
