Petition Supporting Paramedics Making Shuswap Rounds

A petition to have B.C Paramedics deemed as an essential service continues its Shuswap tour, today.

Don Devine is gathering signatures in Scotch Creek today, and spent his Tuesday stationed at Salmon Arm's Picadilly Mall "About 55 people came in and spoke with us and signed the petition. All are very supportive, and were simply amazed that the Ambulance Service is not an essential service at this time."

He says the goal of this provincial campaign is to have Paramedics and dispatchers treated the same as Police and Fire Services "What we want to do is bring a stability into our negotiations or bargaining process, and be part of the Fire and Police Bargaining Act; which prohibits strikes, prohibits lockouts, and also provides a clear, direct path in any impasse in bargaining."

Devine will be back at Scotch Creek's Super Valu on Thursday, and will then move to Salmon Arm's Uptown Askews on Friday.

This petition will need the support of 10% of registered B.C votes in all 85 electoral districts by April 10th.
