Premier Clark Releases Statement On Passing Of Arthur Manuel

B.C Premier Christy Clark provided a statement Thursday on the passing of Arthur Manuel.

Manuel, a former Chief of the Neskonlith Indian Band and Tribal Chairman for the Shuswap Nation Council passed away on Wednesday at the age of 66.

A release from the Premier's office says “History will remember Arthur as Chief of the Neskonlith Indian Band, but also as one of the first and most-effective advocates of lasting reconciliation, working tirelessly and patiently through organizations such as the World Trade Organization and the United Nations."

That release also referred to Manuel as "A steadfast, courageous champion for Indigenous people across Canada."

The Adams Lake gym in Chase will host a wake for Manuel today and tomorrow, and a funeral service is planned for 10AM on Sunday.
