Rockets' Coach Says Palumbo May Get A Chance To Play

It's been a trying season for the KIJHL's Golden Rockets, with just one win in their first 32 games of the season, but the team made a roster move last month that is gaining attention - the signing of a young female netminder.

The Rockets signed 15 year old Goaltender and Golden local Izzy Palumbo as an Affiliate Player before Christmas.

Palumbo currently minds the net for the Revelstoke Midget Tier III team, but Coach Jason Stephens says she's joined the Rockets for a number of recent practices "We're just trying to get Izzy comfortable at practice, and make sure that she can adjust to the speed of the shots with the guys. She's done a great job so far."

He says Palumbo could see some real game action before the season ends "She's not a real big goalie by any means, but she's sure quick and moves well, so we're probably going to give her an opportunity here down the stretch."

Stephens says that the Rockets' organization exists as an option for local players who want to stay close to home after Minor Hockey, and that Palumbo is no exception.

Palumbo's signing was announced by the team back on December 13th.

The Rockets have 15 games left on the season, including two this weekend.
