Sicamous' Mayor Believes District Is Ready For Rising Water Levels

The incoming rain has many locals worried about the levels of Shuswap Lake, but the District of Sicamous is already dealing with one area that's underwater.

Beach Park, next to the Highway overpass, has been mostly underwater for days.

Sicamous Mayor Terry Rysz says those who live in the area have been contacted by the District "We've had communication with all the people along the Beach Park area, out in the Silver Sands area, and so forth - they're all aware of what's happening."

He says that so far he's rather pleased with their preperation "We've got it under control to the best of our ability, but it is what it is, and there's only so much you can do. I think that we're better prepared now than we've ever been."

The Mayor says that this year's lake levels are forcing him to further pursue some sort of channel wall for the area, saying that its become more evident that something must be done in the form of flood mitigation.
