Student Detained At Sullivan Campus Following Social Media Threats

School District 83 says that student safety is its top priority, following a Thursday morning incident at the Sullivan Campus of Salmon Arm Secondary School.

RCMP detained a student following reports about a threatening social media post.

Staff Sergeant Scott West has background, saying "We received information that there was a social media threat involving Salmon Arm Senior Secondary. Our RCMP members as well as SD83 staff worked quickly with one another to take that particular individual who was making threats on social media into custody."

As for the threat itself, West says that an investigation is ongoing "The original threat had indicated violence against a student or students at the school, and we're following up on the actual subject matter of that."

Police say that no weapons were found when that student was detained.

West says that the RCMP don't believe there's any threat to student safety "We can assure both parents and students that at this point and time we're not aware of a credible threat to any student safety at Salmon Arm Senior Secondary, or any other schools in the greater Salmon Arm area."

No further details have been released at this time.
