Tuesday Storm Sparks Fire On Bastion Mountain
Storm activity on Tuesday night caused a number of new fires in the Shuswap region.
Among them is a fire burning in the upper elevations of Bastion Mountain, just North of Salmon Arm.
Fire Information Officer Nicole Bonnett says that helicopter bucketing for that fire began last night.
Only a few staff are on that fire today, with Bonnett saying "We have three personnel, but that could change at any minute."
She says that it's still too early to pin down the size, saying "Once they've gotten to a comfortable place with their suppression efforts they'll be able to give us a more updated size."
The wildfire map also shows two new fires in the Larch Hills area, and three new fires to the East of Sicamous.
Bonnett says that crews have been very busy assessing new fire starts from Tuesday night, and that the expectation is that further storm activity today will bring even more new starts.
