Warming Weather Likely To Create Avalanche Hazards

Back-country users are being asked to check up on avalanche forecasts this weekend, and into next week.

Avalanche Canada's Josh Smith says that our incoming big melt will make conditions a bit precarious in the North and South Columbia mountain ranges "This will be the first major warming event that the snowpack will have to endure this spring, and so anytime we see rapid warming - especially the first time that winter snowpack has to go through that - you generally have a elevated avalanche hazard as a result."

A special public avalanche warning is likely to be issued on Friday afternoon.
