Warmth To Blame For High Avalanche Risk

Considerable to high avalanche risk - that's the forecast for the North and South Columbia mountain ranges.

Forecasters with Avalanche Canada say that recent warmth and heavy snow have created dangerous conditions.

James Floyer says conditions are bad enough that people should be asking themselves if they belong out there "If you don't have high level training right now; if you're not heading out with a guide, then you really need to question - do you suffiicient skills to keep yourself safe at this time?"

Floyer says there's a dangerous and weak layer of snow at the treeline.

Avalanche conditions in Glacier National Park are also rated as high in all three elevations.
