Wildfire Service Taking Action On New Blaze West Of Sorrento

The B.C Wildfire Service is working on a new fire just west of Sorrento.

Spokesperson Marla Catherall has details, saying "It's classified as out of control, and it's currently .8 hectares in size. It's roughly 5.5km SW of Sorrento, and it is visible from Highway One."

Catherall also has word on efforts against that fire today, and last night "We have four BCWS personnel responding, and we did have crews overnight."

She tells us that it is thought to have been human caused, saying "It is suspected to be human caused, but it's still under investigation. One challenge for this one is that it is in steep terrain, so it is difficult for our crews."

Catherall says that air crews are set to take a closer look today.

We will bring you further updates when we can.
