2019 Bulkley Valley Iron Chef All-Stars Competition
The tally is being counted of the funds that were raised at the annual Bulkley Valley Iron Chef All-Stars event, hosted at the Prestige Hudson Bay Lodge in Smithers. The estimated total raised is between nine and ten thousand dollars.
The recipients of the collected funds were Northwest Animal Shelter and Joe Anna’s House. For a $65 admission, guests enjoyed a three course, locally sourced meal, champagne, entertainment, door prizes, an auction and more.
Four local area restaurants participated in the friendly competition and owner of Chatter’s Pizza & Bistro, Chris Morsund discussed why he entered the cooking challenge.
“The community has been amazing for us and now we are trying to give back more to the community. We are trying to do more events and now it’s our time to give back to them for being so supportive. We are taking the step towards being more involved so I said absolutely; I will do it right away. I’m really excited about it! I think it’s fun! I mean, you watch it on TV so hey, let’s jump in and try it.”
Event coordinator, Otto Koldyk, explained his enthusiasm and the possibilities for future Iron Chef events.
“It’s going fantastic, awesome energy; all the four restaurants are doing an amazing job and I think people are having an incredible time right now. But maybe next year, we might open it up to the Northwest, maybe do a combination of Kitimat, Rupert, Terrace and Smithers. It would be really neat to expand the event and we can look at a Northwest charity that could be a beneficiary.”
Event guest, Cathy Stanton, explained her and others motivation to take part in this fundraiser.
“I think most people are very excited about the chance to do something, especially after a long winter, and then also, that something helping our community and we're having a good time.”
This event was made possible thanks to the support and sponsorships from Prestige Hudson Bay Lodge, Noir Kitchen and Bar as well as Barrie's Furniture and Appliances who donated the stoves. Many other contributors participated, not to mention the satisfied and well fed guests.
