Air Quality Advisories ENDED for Smithers, Houston

8:30AM UPDATE:    AIR QUALITY ADVISORIES LIFTED -- NO LONGER IN EFFECT -- WOODSTOVES OKAY TO USE AGAIN ---

=== EARLIER STORY ===

The Environment Ministry and Northern Health are maintaining the Air Quality Advisory for Houston issued earlier this week -- and have now issued one for Smithers.

High concentrations of fine particulate matter are being measured over both communities -- and that means that, until the advisories are lifted, the use of woodstoves is prohibited within municipal boundaries in both Smithers and Houston, unless there's no other source of heat for a dwelling.

People with chronic underlying medical conditions are advised to postpone strenuous exercise until the advisory is lifted.

Exposure is particularly a concern for infants, the elderly and those who have diabetes, and lung or heart disease.
