BCGEU to Build Regional Office In Terrace

The BC Government and Service Employees Union is going to be building its own regional office in Terrace.

After renting space at the Lazelle Plaza for many years, BCGEU president Stephanie Smith says the union will have its own building in an empty lot at the corner of Lazelle Avenue and Kalum Street.

"We are going to be building a new area office that will serve about 22-hundred BCGEU members in what we call our region -- Area 12 -- so that's all the way from Haida Gwaii and Prince Rupert in the northwest to Burns Lake," she said.

Smith says the plan is to break ground next year, and have the building ready for occupancy in the spring or summer of 2018.

The building will cost about 3.8-million dollars to construct.
