Community Search for Frances Brown Suspended

The community search near Witset/Moricetown for a missing mushroom picker has now been suspended for the year.

A post on Facebook said organizers of the search for Frances Brown decided on Saturday that weather conditions had deteriorated to the point that it was just too dangerous for people to continue trekking through the rugged backcountry, which is now covered with snow.

Witset Search and Rescue says it hopes to resume the search next spring.

The 53-year-old Brown had been picking mushrooms in an area near Kitseguecla Lake Road -- but was reported missing on Saturday October 14th, after failing to return to the vehicle that she and a companion had used to access the area.

Her disappearance sparked one of the largest searches seen in northern BC in decades, with volunteers from over 20 search-and-rescue teams from across the province taking part.

That part of the search was suspended one week later, but a community search continued on, supported by members of the Witset-Moricetown community, who provided hot meals for the searchers.
