Cullen Asks For Second Opinion on Riding Name Change
Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen has decided to ask his constituents again, before proposing a name change to his sprawling constituency.
Last week, Cullen announced on Facebook that he was planning to propose in the House of Commons that the riding name be changed to "Skeena-Pacific Northwest", based on an on-line poll he did earlier this month.
He thought the name change would better reflect the riding's make-up.
However, the announcement sparked a backlash, with several people complaining they hadn't been properly consulted.
So Cullen has extended his deadline to noon Tuesday (Dec 5), and will take submissions via social media, email, through his riding offices or through a toll-free phone number (1-888-622-0212).
Cullen acknowledged a name change would carry what he called "modest costs to update stationery", but says his offices are about to replace worn billboards and signage that have seen 14 years of use.
