Cullen Invites Constituents to "Create Your Canada"

If you could suggest a new piece of legislation for Canada, what would it look like?

That's the question Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen is putting to constituents in his riding, as he revives his "Create Your Canada" contest.

Cullen ran the contest about a decade ago, but at that time it was only for high school students in the northwest -- but now he's expanding it to include everyone.

Cullen will hold a series of town hall meetings, beginning next week, inviting people to submit their ideas.

"The contest is very simple:  if you have an idea about a law you'd like to change, a way to make Canada better, write it down and send it to us; we have a volunteer committee -- not me! -- who will pick the winner; the bill has to be constitutional and it has to fit within the rules of federal law and the winner we'll take to Ottawa, I'll fly them to Ottawa on my points and bring them into the House of Commons and we'll have their bill drawn up as a piece of legislation, I'll introduce it for voting in the fall," explained Cullen.

The New Democrat MP will kick of his series of town hall meetings next Tuesday night at his new constituency office in Prince Rupert -- then he moves on to the Best Western Inn in Terrace on Wednesday night, followed by a noon-hour meeting in Hazelton Thursday and a later town hall that evening at the Smithers Art Gallery.

Further open houses will be held in other communities in the riding in the coming weeks.
