Germuth Running for Re-election This Fall
Phil Germuth will be seeking a second term as the Mayor of Kitimat.
''It's an exciting time for Kitimat lets face it. We have the potential of LNG coming, the (smelter) modernization was finished, there's a lot of opportunity optimism in the community. It really is an exciting time to be on council," he said.
Germuth was elected as a councillor in 2011 and three years later, unseated longtime mayor Joanne Monaghan in the 2014 municipal election.
He also serves as chairman for the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine and says he's enjoying the opportunity of contributing to the northwest on a larger scale.
"I've enjoyed working with staff and council and as chair of the regional district getting out to know what's happening in all the other communities. It's a great opportunity for anybody and I would highly recommend it.''
Born and raised in Kitimat, Germuth continues to own and operate an auto service shop in town for over 25 years, and is also member of the Kitimat Gyro club.
