High Water Prompts Warnings About Using Backcountry Roads

The Ministry of Forests is reminding northwest residents to use extra caution when driving backcountry and forest service roads, due to the recent heavy rainfall we've had in the area.

The ministry notes that high water and flooding in many areas within the Coast Mountains District can result in road and bridge washouts, structural failures and bank erosion.

Officials are advising you to turn around and go another way, if you encounter a flooded road -- never try to drive through the water.

If your car becomes stalled, abandon it immediately and get to a safe area.

Last weekend's flooding of the Kitimat River resulted in 14 people needing to be helped by Kitimat and Terrace search-and-rescue volunteers.
