Humboldt Broncos Tragedy Resonates With Terrace Minor Hockey President

The president of the Terrace Minor Hockey Association says last week's tragedy involving the Humboldt Broncos Junior Hockey Team is something that resonates with any sports team in northwest BC.

Darryl Bjorgaard says sports teams in our region, like others across the country, spend many hours travelling on a bus through all sorts of weather conditions -- and they try not to think of what could happen.

"As a person that has travelled on the buses and has had kids travel on the buses, you always have that fear -- you know it is a risk:  this year alone, we lost a coach from Kitimat and we lost a coach from Smithers in car accidents, that they were travelling for hockey, so it hits home, it happens here too -- 20 years ago, we lost Rick King and his son," he said.

Terrace Minor Hockey is joining other organizations across the country in sports jerseys on Thursday in memory of the 16 people killed, and 13 injured, in last Friday's horrific crash of the Humboldt Broncos team bus.
