Kitimat Man Who Killed Daughter in 2003 Denied Full Parole
Full parole has been denied to a Kitimat man, who murdered his teenaged daughter 16 years ago because she was dating a man he didn't approve of.
Sixty-three-year-old Rajinder Atwal stabbed his 17-year-old daughter Amandeep 17 times as they drove from Vancouver in July of 2003 -- and then claimed in court that she had stabbed herself.

He was convicted of second degree murder in 2005.
Court heard that he was angry that Amandeep was dating a man from a different ethno-cultural background -- and killed her after she had decided to leave the family home in Kitimat in order to live with her boyfriend in Prince George.

Last December, he was granted day parole, and has been spending most of his time at his family home in the lower mainland, returning to the community residential facility where he lives each night.
But at a hearing last month, the Parole Board of Canada denied his application for full parole, saying he still posed a risk to society.
