LNG Information Presentation Tonight in Kitimat

LNG development is once again in the spotlight, as a public meeting is being held in Kitimat this evening, hosted by a recently-formed local group which strongly supports the industry.

David Johnston, who heads up the group called "The North Matters", says tonight's forum will feature Kitimat Mayor Phil Germuth and his Fort St John counterpart Lori Ackerman, as well as Haisla Chief Councillor Crystal Smith and Vancouver-based writer/researcher Vivian Krause.

Johnston says the meeting will zero in on the facts and the myths surrounding liquefied natural gas -- and will highlight the benefits the industry could generate.

"We get a lot of information on social media nowadays, and a lot of it is misinformation -- and hearing from people who spend the majority of the days of their lives sorting through all the information out there and pulling out all the facts and making decisions based on those facts for the betterment of communities, hearing straight from those people on what's going on, is something that we as communities need to hear more often," he said.

Tonight's session takes place at the Mount Elizabeth Theatre in Kitimat from 7 to 9, with doors opening at 6:30.
