Port Investment Helps City Performing Arts Facility Shine Brighter
Prince Rupert's Lester Centre of the Arts got a chance to show off its new theatrical lighting and stage draperies, at a weekend gala event celebrating its 30th anniversary.
The lighting and draperies were purchased through a contribution from the Port of Prince Rupert's Community Investment Fund.
The Port’s Communications Officer Monika Cote says this project will benefit thousands of people who walk through the doors of the Lester Centre.
“The lighting system is original to when the Lester centre was built in 1986 and so our contribution has helped the Lester centre replace all of the original lighting with new energy efficient modern lighting for the centre. For this particular project, the Lighting the Way project, we donated 115-thousand 5-hundred dollars to upgrade the lighting system at the Lester Centre, but this follows two community investment funds contributions that we’ve made to the Lester Centre to upgrade the flooring as well as the roof,“ says Cote.
In 2013, the Lester Centre Society's board of directors began collecting two dollars from each ticket sold to build up its Capital Investment Fund, and the Port added over 114-thousand to the total lighting-system cost of 229-thousand dollars.
