Prince Rupert's Rushbrook Trail Restoration To Move Forward After Lease Agreement from City
A Prince Rupert volunteer group will work to restore Rushbrook Trail, after signing a lease agreement this week with the city.
The popular waterfront trail has been closed since 2003, over fears that rocks along an adjacent slope could fall onto the path.
Sean Carlson -- the president of the Kaien Island Trail and Enhancement Society -- says restoration of Rushbrook Trail is an important step toward restoring Prince Rupert's status as a place where urban and backcountry hiking options are accessible and safe.
In December, the society completed a draft master plan for a network of interconnected trails.
Mayor Lee Brain says the trail's rehabilitation was identified as a communty priority in the city's ReDesign Rupert Initiative.
