Public Budget Consultation Meeting in Prince Rupert

The City of Prince Rupert is holding a public budget consultation meeting today providing an opportunity for community members to share their opinions to questions from Council and staff.

The City’s CFO will host the meeting providing an overview of what the 2017 budget will look like, how much percentage of taxes are proposed-- if there’s an increase, as well as different proportions of what the proposed budget will be spent on.

The City’s Communication’s Manager Veronika Stewart says during the meeting, the public will have the opportunity to vote yes or no to the questions provided.

“In order to vote you can either come here in person and vote on paper or you can come here in person and vote with your phone. There’s a text option and also you can vote online if you’re at home. There are a variety of different ways that you can vote and those options will be presented—so if you’re watching from home they’ll be up on the screen, it’ll give you directions and prompts on how to vote.”

Stewart says the voting period will only be open for the duration of the meeting.

If you’re interested in watching the meeting, you’ll have the luxury of viewing from the comfort of your home on channel 10 or live stream it from the City’s website.
