Sears Store In Terrace Prepares for the End

The owner of the Sears outlet in Terrace says he's sad to be closing his doors -- but he has no choice.

Boota Uppal has owned the Sears Hometown store in Terrace for the past 16 years, and says he's been doing good business -- but a conference call with company headquarters last week confirmed that Sears Canada was preparing to close its roughly 130 remaining stores across the country, after failing to find a buyer that would allow it to continue.

Sears has been operating under the Companies Creditors Arrangement Act since June -- as it struggled to keep at least some of its stores open.

But on Tuesday, Sears Canada announced it would begin the process of liquidating all inventory, which it estimates would take about three months.

However Uppal says his own store will likely be cleared out well before that.

The Prince Rupert outlet had already announced it would be shutting its doors on October 28th.
