Smithers Fire Rescue has received three major awards from Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
The department is the recipient of this year's Bill Grindlay Fire Department of the Year Award for BC and Yukon, as well as the Top Single Department Event Award and the National Doctor David Green Impact Award.
Deputy Fire Chief Kelly Zacharias accepted the honours at a recent banquet in Victoria.
The national award was presented to recognize the Smithers department for raising over one million dollars since 1991, through its annual Harley Davidson raffles.
The fundraisers are held in partnership with the local Harley dealer in Smithers and the Northwest Chapter of the Harley Owners Group..
The money raised is donated to Muscular Dystrophy Canada to support the organization's missions.
