Smithers Hosts High School Provincial Curling Championships This Week

The award-winning Smithers High School Boys Curling Team will welcome the top boys and girls teams from around the province in the B-C Senior Secondary School Curling Championships, which begin this Thursday at the Smithers Curling Centre.

Fundraising Committee chair Gina LaHaye says about 120 people will be arriving in town in the next couple of days -- and they'll get down to business fairly quickly, saying "they get practice time Wednesday evening -- registration, all the formalities, those kinds of things -- opening ceremonies Thursday morning and then away we go."

She said "Quite a few of them are flying in; let's hope that we don't get that snowstorm that the seven-day forecast is predicting."

LaHaye says the action will be open to the public, either to view in person at the Smithers curling rink -- or online via the "Curling Geek" website.
