SNOWFALL, WIND, ARCTIC OUTFLOW WARNINGS FOR NORTHWEST

Wind warning in effect for:

  • North Coast - coastal sections

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

Strong outflow winds near the mainland inlets will strengthen to 90 km/h tonight as a strong arctic ridge builds over the BC Interior. The strong winds will persist through the weekend.

Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

  • North Coast - coastal sections

Snowfall, with total amounts of about 15 cm is expected.

An area of low pressure near Haida Gwaii will funnel a constant stream of moisture onto the North Coast. Temperatures are cold enough for city of Prince Rupert to see snow with accumulations up to 10 cm today. The snow will ease tonight as the low moves further offshore.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. For information on emergency plans and kits go to http://www.getprepared.gc.ca/

Today: Periods of snow. Amount 5 to 10 cm except 15 cm near Kitimat. Becoming windy this morning. High minus 5. Wind chill minus 17.

Tonight:  Periods of snow. Amount 2 to 4 cm except 10 cm near Kitimat. Windy. Low minus 9. Wind chill minus 19.SaturdayCloudy with 60 percent chance of flurries. Local blowing snow. Wind north 50 km/h gusting to 70. Temperature steady near minus 9. Wind chill minus 20.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

  • Bulkley Valley and The Lakes - northwest including Smithers

Snowfall, with total amounts of about 15 cm is expected.

Snow will intensify over the northwestern Bulkley Valley early this afternoon as moisture from a low pressure system off the coast moves over the region. The snow will continue tonight then ease early Saturday morning.
